Stramongate Nursery School

Operated in conjunction with the Queen Katherine School and its pre-existing Meadow View Nursery, Stramongate Nursery School serves the Kendal area and was presented with ‘Inclusive Practice’ award by Nursery World Magazine in 2014.

Until recently, the nursery made do with a desktop printer designed predominantly for home use. Over time, the printer could not cope with the increasing paperwork associated with running a modern nursery. The staff found that they were unable to get documents printed as and when needed, constantly having to buy expensive replacement ink cartridges.

“We were spending around £150 every month on ink cartridges alone” said Carron Nugent, Stramongate Nursery Manager. “We struggled to keep up with the volume of printing, using mountains of ink which was very costly.”

Dissatisfied with the poor value for money their choice in printer had given them, Carron sought outside help. After a recommendation from another local nursery, Sensible were contacted.

Following a consultation with Sensible’s Managing Director Phil Graham, a more reliable laser-based business printer was recommended to replace the original domestic inkjet printer. The new machine allows use from all computers on the premises and supports more advanced functions, such as double-sided printing. The swap from inkjet to laser meant more prints per cartridge as well as being able to deal with the nurseries’ increasing demands for printed documents.

“Now our monthly bill never exceeds £50 and the quality of printing is consistently excellent” added Carron.

Over the last year, the nursery has saved £1,200 on replacement ink cartridges alone. As well as saving money, when asked about working with Sensible, Carron reported “An excellent service from start to finish, informative and friendly.” Speaking on behalf of other nursery staff she said “Our lives have changed for the better since we installed the printer from Sensible!”
