The British Thoroughbred Retraining Centre is a registered charity retraining and rehabilitating retired racehorses. Based on a beautiful 200-acre farm in Halton near Lancaster, we revisited the centre to find out how we helped them save time and money.
Due to the nature of their work and charity status, the centre’s time and funds are of course extremely precious and so it was a real issue when they were being let down by their office phones. Lauren Lindsay, Communications Manager at The BTRC told us “We were struggling with clear phone lines and the support from the previous supplier was not consistent. We had an engineer visit numerous times to rectify the bad lines, without success”.

In June 2021, they got in touch with Sensible who promptly visited the centre to perform a free IT Health Check and offer an in-depth quote. “Mike visited the site to provide a quote and from that moment Sensible were professional and helpful at all times, and that helped our decision to work with them” said Lauren. She added that “Options of how we could overcome the issues were discussed with us and the best solution selected to suit our needs. Sensible assessed our internet connection, and being with B4RN we were able to make the change to the new phone system.”
Since making the move to Sensible for their office phones, BTRC have saved both money and time. Lauren explained that “the new phone system means there’s less time spent fixing issues if and when they arise, and the new contract with Sensible saves us money compared to the one with our previous supplier.”

Following this improvement, in early 2022 Sensible then migrated the centre over to their Managed Microsoft Office 365 service as well as starting an IT support contract. “Since moving to Sensible for our new phone system they have also taken over our IT systems.” Lauren told us, adding “They have moved us to cloud based working which enables a much smoother way of working for those in the office, and if anyone needs to work from home.”
Now that the centre’s phones and IT are being looked after by the Sensible team, Lauren said that “we have a much more efficient working environment”. The main reason Lauren gave for recommending Sensible is “the friendly, helpful knowledgeable team that work there and the broad services they offer”. When asked what they most liked about working with us, Lauren said “The customer service. There is always someone at the end of the phone to help with any issues. They are always dealt with in a timely and friendly manner.”
