Furness Academy

Situated on the edge of the Lake District in Barrow-in-Furness, Furness Academy is one of the few academies in the country that boasts only educational sponsors. The Academy is an institution which has at its heart a sense of ambition and determination to deliver outstanding teaching and learning.

In 2010, the academy was approached by Sensible to review office print costs and provision. At that time, the academy was using a variety of office printers which had been bought outright. Consequently, the running costs were extremely high and monitoring those costs was very difficult.

“Sensible helped us to identify what we were actually paying for our office print, which is the first step in controlling our costs,” said Peter Docker, ICT Resources & Learning Manager at Furness Academy.

Sensible proposed an alternative approach to fulfilling the academy’s office print provision. Peter added “Phil had a good idea that sounded like it would work and the figures he presented made sense. We had nothing to lose by putting it into practice and see if it really did work.”

Sensible provided a workable, scalable solution based on a short term lease agreement that includes the supply of new Kyocera business printers, all toners and cartridges plus dedicated customer support and monitoring of office print costs and usage.

“We had been paying around £60,000 per year for printers and toner,” commented Peter. “This has dropped year on year to around £15,000.”
